Setting the main character

【Goal】Let’s change the walking graphic of the protagonist in the sample game (Wolfarl) to a cook.

*This tutorial is to set the main character’s walking graphic at the start of the game. If you wish to change their graphic after the game has started, please go to “I want to change the hero’s title and image during the game”. If this method does not work, then refer to [Secret Note] at the end of the tutorial.

[1] Click on the Variable Database icon (a window will appear)

[2] Make sure that the current “Type” is set on “0:Hero Status“.

[3] In the center column (beneath ID), click on “12:Wolfarl“. Now if you look at the right half of the window, you’ll see “Walking Graphics Image“. Click the “File” button next to it.

[4] The “Select File” window should be displayed. Select “Cook.png” from the left column. After that click “OK“, then click “Update“, then “OK” again.

*If you want to return to the original sprite, just select “Wolfarl.png“.

*In the box that says [CharaChip], you can select a folder from which an image is imported.

[5] Test play and the game should begin with the cook instead of Wolfarl.

The beginning intro won’t make sense with the new character, but whatever, you were able to change the walking graphic of the main character!

[Secret Note] Is there any other way to change the starting character?

–> Heck yeah! There’s always another way to change the starting character image. Here’s my personal tutorial:

  1. Open the Variable Database.
  2. In the “Type” column, select “0:Hero Status“.
  3. In the “Data” column, either replace an existing character with your own, or simply input your character into a blank slot.
  4. Click “Update“.
  5. Go back to the “Type” column and scroll down to “6:Party Info“.
  6. In the right half of the window, you’ll see the party members 1-6.
  7. The “Member 1” slot is probably Wolfarl, if so, switch the first member to your character from step 3.
  8. Remember to click “Update
  9. Test Play

You can add more party members if you want them to follow you. Also, the first member is almost always the main character (protagonist). If you have any questions or concerns, you can ask me in the comments section. I plan on creating a video tutorial sometime later and posting the link here for everyone to see.

Best Regards,

Enko
