Creating a new event

【Goal】In “Sample Map A” of the sample game (basic system), we will create an event where a chicken will say “Good Morning!” when we talk to it. <What is an event? For now, think of it as an action such as a NPC talking to you.>

[1] Click on the Map Selection icon and select “Sample Map A

[2] Switch to Event Layer (next to layer 3 near the top left of the screen) and right-click on any empty space on the map, a menu should appear.

Select “Event Create/Edit

[3] The “Event Settings” window should be displayed

[4] Set the walking graphic (image) of the event by double-clicking the gray box.

[5] A new window will pop up displaying all available characters. Select “Chicken.png” and press “OK“.

(By clicking on the character image in the right column, you can change the direction the character will face when placed on the map.)

[6] The chicken graphic should now appear inside of the gray box.

[7] The next step is to add a process to make the chicken talk.

Click on the button “|Command Insert Window|” at the bottom right of the event window.

[8] The “Event Command Insert” window should appear.

Make sure to select the tab “Show Message

[9] TypeGood Morning!” into the text entry field (blank box) and click Insert.

[10] Now that everything is set, close the “Event Command Insert” window.

Remember: The event can only work if its start condition is met. In this case, the condition is to press the confirm key (usually “z” or “Enter”).

[11] Click the ” Save (Entire Map) ” button at the bottom right of the event window (next to |Command Insert Window|)

Now click on “Test Play

[12] Select “Start

After finishing the introduction, let’s talk to the chicken by pressing the enter key.

The chicken should now say “Good Morning!” (Make sure to talk to the correct chicken, not Yuichi)

Congrats on creating your first event!

[Side Note] Can you name the event?

If you use a graphic, the file name will automatically be entered into the “Name” field. It doesn’t matter what name you give it since nothing will happen to the event.

So what is this “Name” and what is it used for?

When editing the event layer, move the cursor to the event, and the event name will be displayed in the title bar. (It’s helpful for separating different events.)
