Map chip is useless if it isn’t 128/236/320 px

【Goal】In this tutorial, we’ll learn how to identify map chip resolutions and how to adjust them so that the game functions properly.

[1] What is the size of the material (map chip) you are going to use?

Check the length of the “basemap” before registering a new map chip

Type A: 128 pixels

Type B: 256 pixels

Type C: 320 pixels

Type X: none of the above

[2] What is your current resolution setting? (check the resolution in the game’s basic settings)

Type a: 320 x 240 pixels

Type b: 640 x 480 pixels

Type c: 800 x 600 pixels

[3] Which combination of types (from steps [1] and [2]) do you have?

If you have “A and a” or “B and b” or “C and c” then everything is working correctly. Any other combination of letters (ex: “A and c” or “B and a”) will result in this error.

[Solution]

The easiest way to fix this error is to change the resolution in the game’s basic settings to the “correct combination.”

For example, if the materials you use are “type A”, you’ll need to adjust the game’s resolution to “type a.” If you use materials with “type C”, you’ll need to adjust the game’s resolution to “type c.”

[Side Note 1] What if I have Type X?

If you use a material (map chip) that is “type X,” there are three possibilities that may have happened:

  1. You tried to register the material as is.
  2. You made the map chip the wrong size.
  3. You registered an auto tile on a map chip.

In the case of 1, you can use the material conversion tool called “tkool2WOLF+” in order to make custom materials usable in WOLF RPG Editor. For more details, please refer to “Converting external materials to use in WRPGE.” When using, please read the section: “What are the rules for using materials.”

In the case of 2, please check the horizontal sign again and remake it. Refer to “How to make map chip materials” if you are confused.

In the case of 3, let’s check the original place where materials should be registered (WRPGE Bundle folder–> Data folder–> MapChip folder). Of all the images included in the sample, files with [A] are registered as auto tiles; files with [Base] are registered as map chips.

[Side Note 2] Do auto tiles experience the same error?

Auto tiles normally shouldn’t have this problem. If your auto tiles are displayed incorrectly, check below to see if they follow the standards. (look at the vertical size)

Type A: height is 80 pixels

Type B: height is 160 pixels

Type C: height is 200 pixels

Type X: none of the above (everything is the same)
