When playing a game, there is usually music in the background. Music is a very important element in games.
【Goal】We will learn how to manipulate the system database to change the background music (BGM) of the title screen. We will also briefly talk about how to set the BGM when creating a new map.
[1] Setting BGM for an existing map
Click the [Map Select] icon
and select the “0: Title” map.
After that, click on the wrench icon
to open the “Map Settings” window.
You should see a line that says “Register Map (SystemDB Type 0) ⬜ Register”
Check the box ☑.
[2A] Selecting BGM from the system database
The “default BGM” button should already be checked.
Make sure that the box next to “Give Filename” is not checked.
Pick the BGM you want to use from the dropdown list. (For this tutorial, we’ll use “2: Title Track”)
Click the [OK] button to save the settings.
*This method will only work if the “Use” box is checked and not the “Previous Map” box.*
[2B] Selecting BGM from your files
The “default BGM” button should already be checked.
This time, you will check the box next to “Give Filename”
You can either type in the file name manually or click on the [File] button to pick from a list.
Select the BGM file that you want. (This tutorial will be using the file “Piece01_Takumi.mid”)
Click the [OK] button to save the settings.
[3] Let’s test it!
If you can hear BGM you set (in this case, the BGM is the title track song) then everything is working correctly.
[4] Setting BGM for a new map
Click the blank paper icon
to create a new map.
The following method will be very similar to step [2A], however, you’ll notice that the box next to “Register Map (SystemDB Type 0)” will already be checked.
All you have to do is check the box next to “Default BGM” and select the song file that you want.
Remember to click [OK] to save the settings and create the map.
When you enter the new map, you should hear the BGM playing.
[5] As for how to set Background Sound (BGS), it’s similar to setting up the BGM.
Open Map Settings and check the box next to “Register”
Then check the box next to “Default BGS”
You can select what BGS is playing from the dropdown list.
[6] To register personal or custom BGM into the system database, please refer to the tutorial: “Using BGM and sound effects”
[7] Once you get the hang of it, try opening the system database using this method as well.
Look at the left column and select “0:Map Settings”
There will be a line titled “BGM Number (From List)” on the right column.
You will see the current BGM of the map. If you want to change the BGM, simply click on the dropdown list and pick a different BGM.
If you want to enter the BGM filename manually, you’ll need to type it in the empty field next to “BGM Filename [BGM #=-3]”
